Jeremy Shaw

Depuis le début des années 2000, l'artiste canadien Jeremy Shaw explore l'aspiration humaine à la transcendance à travers une pratique multidisciplinaire. Utilisant des techniques tirées de l'art conceptuel et du film documentaire, il a développé une oeuvre qui révèle les limites de la culture et de la conscience en créant des narrations traversées de questions métaphysiques, anthropologiques et scientifiques. Sa démarche novatrice associe interrogation sur les fins dernières, superposition de systèmes de croyances et science-fiction aux neurosciences et subcultures, pour interroger les aspirations de l'homme dans une ère post-humaine. Cette publication accompagne sa première exposition en France, au Centre Pompidou, et son exposition au Swiss Institute de New York, qui se tiendra ensuite au Muséum of Old and New Art en Tasmanie. À l'occasion de la présentation de son installation inédite Phase Shifting Index, ce catalogue constitue la première monographie complète de Jeremy Shaw et offre un regard rétrospectif sur l'ensemble de son oeuvre.

Canadian artist Jeremy Shaw has explored the human aspiration towards transcendence through his multidisciplinary practice since the early 2000s. Shaw has developed a body of work that reveals the edges of culture and consciousness by adopting techniques from conceptual art and documentary film to create new narratives shot through with metaphysics, anthropology and science. His innovative work combines eschatological questioning, juxtaposed belief systems, and science fiction, with disparate zones of neuroscience and subculture to confront the aspirations of people in a post-human epoch. This publication accompanies Shaw's first institutional solo exhibition in France, at the Centre Pompidou, and his exhibition at Swiss Institute, New York, which will travel to the Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania. On the occasion of the major new commission, Phase Shifting Index, this catalogue constitutes the first complete monograph on the artist and offers a survey of his larger body of work.
